Union Berlin 2 – Hoffenheim 1: Points secure for The Iron Ones at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium

Union Berlin eased past Hoffenheim in a 2-1 victory on Saturday at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium. Union Berlin wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in their previous game. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, were able to continue their winning streak after a 3-1 win against Augsburg in their last match. After today’s result, both teams are on 31 points and sit in 4th and 3rd places respectively after 19 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Hoffenheim, thanks to Timo Baumgartl giving From Kraichgau region the lead at the 16 minute mark. However, their lead was short lived, as Andreas Voglsammer equalised for The Iron Ones, 22 minutes in to see out the first half 1-1.

Union Berlin continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Grischa Promel in the 73rd minute, leaving the final score at 2-1.

For Union Berlin, Sheraldo Becker, Paul Jaeckel, Genki Haraguchi, Julian Ryerson and Kevin Behrens, came on for Levin Oztunali, Dominique Heintz, Andreas Voglsammer, Bastian Oczipka and Max Kruse. Hoffenheim brought on Georginio Rutter, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Angelo Stiller and Sebastian Rudy for Kevin Akpoguma, Munas Dabbur, Dennis Geiger and Stefan Posch.

The referee booked Kevin Akpoguma, Munas Dabbur and Dennis Geiger for Hoffenheim.

Union Berlin will next play B Mönchengladbach away, with Hoffenheim facing Borussia Dortmund at home.
