Hertha 1 – Cologne 3: The Old Lady lose at home to The Billy Goats

FC Köln eased past Hertha in a 3-1 victory on Sunday at the Olympiastadion. Both teams arrived fresh from some positive results. Hertha had been hopeful of continuing their run after winning last match while Cologne came from back-to-back wins against Stuttgart and Wolfsburg. After today’s result, Hertha and Cologne sit 12th, (21 points) and 9th, (25 points), in the table respectively, after 18 matches.

Cologne started strongly in the first half, thanks to Anthony Modeste giving Cologne the lead at the 29 minute mark. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Ondrej Duda, 32 minutes in. The score at half time was 0-2.

The Old Lady took the initiative in the second half, with Vladimir Darida finding the net, 57 minutes in. The Billy Goats in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Jan Thielmann, leaving the final score at 3-1.

For Hertha, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Lucas Tousart and Lukas Klunter, came on for Myziane Maolida, Davie Selke, Santiago Ascacibar and Peter Pekarik. Cologne brought on Dejan Ljubicic, Jan Thielmann, Jannes Horn and Tomas Ostrak, to replace Louis Schaub, Florian Kainz, Mark Uth and Ondrej Duda.

There were bookings for Jordan Torunarigha, Suat Serdar and Kevin-Prince Boateng from Hertha. For Cologne, Timo Hubers saw yellow.

Hertha will next travel to Wolfsburg, while Cologne will face Bayern Munich at home.
