Bayer Leverkusen banked all three points against the FC Köln in a 2-1 victory on Wednesday, at the Rhein Energie Stadion. Cologne were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last match 2-0 to SC Freiburg. Bayer, meanwhile, were able to continue their winning streak after a 5-0 win against Union Berlin in their last match. Cologne and Bayer are 12th, (17 points) and 13th, (15 points), spots respectively, after 14 matches.

The Billy Goats started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Benno Erik Schmitz gave them the lead on the 30 minute mark. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0.

The Company’s Eleven continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Nadiem Amiri found the net on the 65 minute mark. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Moussa Diaby, at 71 minutes to make it 2-1.

Substitutions for Cologne included Kingsley Schindler, Jan Thielmann, Steffen Tigges and Ondrej Duda for Benno Erik Schmitz, Florian Kainz, Linton Maina and Sargis Adamyan, respectively. Bayer brought on Odilon Kossounou, Amine Adli, Nadiem Amiri, Kerem Demirbay and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, to replace Jonathan Tah, Adam Hlozek, Exequiel Palacios, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jeremie Frimpong.

There were bookings for Jan Thielmann from Cologne, and Robert Andrich and Kerem Demirbay, for Bayer.
