Gladbach 1 – Bayer 2: Travelling fans rewarded with victory

Bayer Leverkusen eased past B Mönchengladbach in a 2-1 victory on Saturday at the Borussia Park. Gladbach were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning last match. Bayer secured a point against Union Berlin in their previous match. Following today’s result, Gladbach are currently 12th with 22 points from 19 matches, while Bayer sit in 3rd, with 32 points from 19.

After an un-eventful first half, Bayer certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, with Robert Andrich finding the net, at 51 minutes. The Company’s Eleven looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Patrik Schick in the 74th minute to establish a 2-0. In the end though, Gladbach, 81 minutes in hit back though following a Nico Elvedi goal. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

For Gladbach, Joe Scally, Marcus Thuram, Louis Beyer, Alassane Plea and Patrick Herrmann, came on for Laszlo Benes, Luca Netz, Tony Jantschke, Lars Stindl and Stefan Lainer. Bayer replaced Jeremie Frimpong, Karim Bellarabi, Moussa Diaby and Florian Wirtz for Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Amine Adli, Panagiotis Retsos and Nadiem Amiri.

There were bookings for Lars Stindl and Louis Beyer from Gladbach. For Bayer, Jonathan Tah, Mitchel Bakker and Kerem Demirbay saw yellow.

Gladbach next face Union Berlin and Bayer are at home to Augsburg.
