Gimnasia 1-0 Defensa and Justicia: Leaders extend winning streak to three

Gimnasia La Plata beated Defensa and Justicia 1-0 on Sunday at Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo. Gimnasia were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Rosario Central away (1-0), the other to Racing Club at home (3-1). Defensa and Justicia, on the other hand, are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. After today’s result, Gimnasia are in 1st place in the table and have 14 points while Defensa and Justicia sit in 25th with 4 points after 6 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Gimnasia applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Tomas Muro at the 78 minute mark. The final result, Gimnasia 1, Defensa and Justicia 0.

Substitutions for Gimnasia included Tomas Muro, Matias Miranda, Carlos Insaurralde and Emanuel Cecchini for Lautaro Chavez, Erik Ramirez, Agustin Cardozo and Ramon Sosa, repectively. Defensa and Justicia brought on Alexis Soto, Cristian Agustin Fontana and Tomas Ezequiel Galvan, to replace Gabriel Alanis, Nicolas Fernandez and Gaston Togni.

There were bookings for Agustin Cardozo, Brahian Aleman and Emanuel Cecchini from Gimnasia, and Gabriel Alanis and Juan Gabriel Rodriguez, for Defensa and Justicia.

Gimnasia will next travel to Atlético Tucumán, while Defensa and Justicia will face Aldosivi at home.
