Boca 1-0 Vélez: Juniors go top after narrow home win

Boca’s 1-0 win over Vélez Sarsfield on Monday, was hard fought at Alberto Jose Armando. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Boca were looking to continue their good run, following a 1-0 victory against Godoy Cruz. Vélez had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Barracas C.. Boca are now in 3rd place, with 39 points from 22 matches, while Vélez sit in 27th, with 16 points from 22.

After an uneventful first half, Boca applied pressure in the second, when Javier Morales gave them the lead, 79 minutes in, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Substitutions for Boca included Cristian Medina, Luis Vazquez, Javier Morales, Simon Rivero and Esteban Rolon for Martin Payero, Dario Benedetto, Guillermo Fernandez, Oscar Romero and Luca Daniel Langoni, respectively. Vélez brought on Santiago Castro, Luca Orellano, Jose Florentin, Miguel Brizuela and Agustin Mulet, to replace Lucas Pratto, Julian Fernandez, Mateo Seoane, Nicolas Garayalde and Walter Bou.

Boca and Vélez played a rough match where the referee sanctioned Boca with yellow cards to Alan Varela, Guillermo Fernandez and Frank Fabra and with red card to Luis Vazquez, while from Vélez Leonardo Jara, Santiago Castro and Matias De los Santos were booked and red to Francisco Ortega and Emmanuel Gomez.

Boca will play their next fixture away against Gimnasia La Plata, while Vélez will face Banfield at home.
